Animal Face from Carmel is a sativa-dominant strain that promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
Bred by crossing the renowned Face Off OG with Animal Mints, this flower is the result of selecting only the best phenotype out of 100 different variations. What makes this version of Animal Face so special is not just its potent effects and impressive aroma from the dominant terpenes, but also a unique blend of flavours, featuring hints of tangy lemon and sweet cake.
Let’s see how this compares to Back Forty’s Animal Mints or Carmel’s MAC-1.

Smell
The moment we received the package containing Carmel’s Animal Face, we were filled with excitement and anticipation. As we eagerly opened the industry standard resealable orange coloured bag, the aroma began to waft towards our noses, and we were immediately impressed by its potency. The smell of the weed was captivating, boasting a complex bouquet of scents that is sure to excite any cannabis enthusiast. Upon first whiff, a bold pine note dominates the senses, evoking feelings of tranquility and grounding. As the aroma begins to unfold, a more subtle herbal companion becomes apparent, adding a layer of depth and complexity to the overall experience.
The combination of these two distinct scents creates an intriguing and harmonious aroma that is both refreshing and invigorating. It is worth noting that the smell is moderately strong and persistent, so those who are concerned about discretion should take precautions.
Appearance
We were immediately impressed by the level of detail provided on the packaging. The front of the bag displays all the essential information, such as the brand name, product name, weight, and contained cannabinoids like the THC/CBD content. However, upon flipping the bag over, we were pleasantly surprised to find a wealth of additional information regarding the strain’s lineage, aroma, flavours, and appearance, as well as the grow practice and method of drying.
In addition to the informative packaging, the quality of the buds themselves lived up to the high standards set by the brand. As we poured the contents out, we were met with an array of bright green, medium-sized buds, each adorned with their own curly, vibrant orange pistils. The buds are well-trimmed, with a thick trichome layer that glistens and catches the eye. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the buds are dense, yet spongy to the touch. This is likely due to the nitrogen sealing and humidity shield included in the packaging, which ensures that the buds remain fresh and flavourful.
Overall, the appearance of Animal Face from Carmel is simply stunning. The buds are visually appealing and indicative of the high quality standards set by the brand. With its vibrant green colour, rich trichome layer, and unique pistil hues, this strain is sure to catch the eye of even the most discerning cannabis enthusiasts.
Flavour
We were eager to experience the flavours promised by the strain’s captivating aroma. To our surprise, the flavour profile was slightly different than expected, though in the best way possible. The initial taste to hit the palate was a bold herbal flavour, which was surprisingly more pronounced than the pine notes we had anticipated. However, this herbal flavour was in no way unpleasant, and actually provides a welcome balance to the overall experience. As we continued to smoke, we began to detect the pine notes we had been waiting for, which added a sharp kick to the finish and left a pleasant aftertaste that lingered on the tongue.
While we had initially hoped for a stronger pine taste, we found that the bold herbal taste provided a unique and enjoyable experience that we wouldn’t have expected otherwise. The balance of flavours in Animal Face from Carmel is impressive, with each complimenting and enhancing the others.
Experience
Our bag was part of lot number AF70A1 which was packaged on November 15, 2022. Listed as containing 30.89% THC with a price of $48.50 for 3.5 grams we feel the price is a bit high however the product is well worth the expense. We tested at different times of the day, and found that it is a bit too strong for a wake and bake session. In fact, it nearly knocked us back to bed! However, when used in smaller doses throughout the day, we were able to enjoy the experience without feeling too weighed down. The effects of Animal Face are undeniably potent. The high was intense and cerebral, with a heavy mental stun that made it difficult to focus on anything in particular – almost like a writer’s block effect. Our eyes felt heavy and droopy, and we experienced a general sense of lethargy that made us want to take a nap.
Despite its strong effects, a little goes a long way with Animal Face, making it a cost-effective choice for those who prefer high-potency strains. If you’re looking for a new strain to try this one might be a good fit. The unique and dumbfounding high offered is definitely worth experiencing, and we would not hesitate to purchase it again in the future.
