Emerald Chocolope Review

Emerald's Chocolope is a sativa strain which gained popularity because it has a flavour and aroma similar to dark chocolate mixed with coffee.

Emerald Chocolope is a sativa-dominant strain that was created by crossing Cannalope Haze and Chocolate Thai.

The result is a flavourful flower that many users say it reminds them of a sweet mug of freshly brewed morning coffee, stirred with a stick of rich, dark chocolate. This gets amplified by an aroma that is comparable to a roasted, coffee-like smell with distinct earthy undertones. Chocolope’s buds are known for having a thick layer of trichome crystals which is another reason for the strains popularity.

This is our first experience with the Emerald brand so we’re curious how this cultivar stacks up to products like Solei’s Chocolate Cheesecake.

Smell

Emerald’s Chocolope arrived in an industry standard medium-sized green bag with resealable zipper opening. We carefully opened the top because the zippers on these bags sometimes ripped right off. We took a good inhale and our first thought was this certainly does have a unique aroma. In terms of strength we’d say moderate and but the best way to describe the flavour would be something like earthy dark baking chocolate (bitter not sweet).

Appearance

Unfortunately Emerald did not include a humidity shield inside the bag, this is unfortunate and likely affected the overall smell and freshness. We believe that appearance and presentation are important. While the buds were all tiny as pebbles, they did have a certain aesthetic appeal and as advertised with covered in a heavy trichome layer. However we did find them a bit leafy and quite dry so something to remember if that bothers you.

Flavour

I don’t think we expected much in terms of flavour because of the moderate smell and dryness of the buds. However this one surprised us a bit and was different in a good way. When first inhaling we found the flavour started with a distinct earthy taste before blending into that dark baking chocolate mentioned before. The smoke was fairly smooth, but no doubt would have been better with the inclusion of the humidity shield. This really needs to become an industry standard.

Experience

Emerald’s Chocolope is an interesting sativa that’s listed with 20.6% THC content and a price tag of $29.95 for 3.5 grams. We found this product delivered a very strong high that was not contained to cerebral affects only. While it does produce a strong uplifting mental alertness boost, we found it also packed a moderately strong body tingling sensation that some sativa hunters may not want. However given the reasonable price tag and interesting flavour/aroma profile this one is worth checking out at least once.

Since high school my friends and I have been recreational cannabis users so we decided to start Merry Jade after legalization in 2019. We review and photograph the different products then share them on this website. The rating system we use is called “SAFE” which stands for Smell, Appearance, Flavour and Experience. Each category gets a score out of 10.
