Let’s keep the fruit theme going. Yesterday we reviewed Vertical’s Strawberry Cake so today let’s lean into the citrus side of things. Liiv Orange Monkey is an indica-dominant strain that was created by crossing Gorilla Glue #4 with Guinness.
Liiv describes this product as having bright orange hairs, light green leaves and a frosty layer of amber crystal trichomes. In terms of flavour profile most users report a strong citrus with subtle hints of earthy hops. Orange Monkey also has over 4.5% of terpene content including high levels of limonene, myrcene, and caryophyllene, which account for the strains distinct citrus aroma. So how does Liiv’s Orange Monkey smoke?
Smell
This is our first encounter with a Liiv product so your guess is as good as ours in terms of what to expect. It arrived in industry standard white plastic container with security lid. We popped off the top and expected a hurricane of oranges but in reality the smell was quite weak which made identifying the aroma harder then planned. The citrusy orange is definitely present but the secondary earthy hops is just as strong. Not what we anticipated.
Appearance
Orange Monkey’s appearance is pretty close to the description provided by Liiv. The buds are made up of bright greens with dark orange pistils and even layer of frosty trichomes. The trim job is good, but we found the buds dry with some noticeable large stems.
Flavour
Given the smell of this product was so mild we were expecting a similar result with the taste. Luckily the flavour profile was much more enjoyable and strong. The taste can be described as a creamy orange popsicle flavour that leaned heavily into the sweet citrus. If you’re a fan of cannabis with lots of limonene then you’re going to enjoy this one.
Experience
Given the low price and THC content of 22.3%, it’s hard to complain about Liiv’s Orange Monkey. This product delivered a pretty balanced experience including a moderately strong body buzz combined with a stronger cerebral high. Depending on your THC tolerance this once could be enjoyed any time of the day. If you enjoy this product from Liiv you’ll probably also like Spinach’s Atomic Sour Grapefruit which has a similarly strong citrus element.
