We’ve been reviewing a lot of different herb vaporizers lately to find out who builds the best units.
Today we’re checking out the Utillian 722 Dry Herb Vaporizer from Thermodyne Systems which is suppose to be simple to operate and built from high grade components. We got ours from VaporizerChief.com where it’s retailing for $169.99 with over 20 five star reviews at the time of writing so we’re expecting this to be a quality device.
Let’s see how it compares to Boundless Vaporizers or the E-Clipse from Dark Side Vapes.
QUALITY OF CONSTRUCTION
When you pick up the Utillian 722 for the first time it definitely gives the impression of solid, well made device.
The dimensions were 11.2 x 5.7 x 2.9 cm (4.41 x 2.25 x 1.15 in) and its weight was 179 grams (0.39 lb). This makes it average size however it is a little heavier then other similar sized units.
Instead of a ceramic heating chamber like other dry herb vaporizers, the Utillian 722 uses a convection heating chamber to rapidly heat up the flower. This chamber measures 0.5 inches in diameter, 5/16 inches deep and is able to hold 0.4 grams of ground up cannabis.
We did however accidentally snap off the mouthpiece, but it easily snapped back on as though nothing even happened. We did learn that cleaning the mouthpiece and around it would be very simple with how quickly the unit disassembles.
EASE OF USE
As with many dry herb vaporizers, they recommend you fully charge and then perform a sanitation cycle before first use which consists of heating the unit to maximum temperature for a full cycle until the device shuts off. The sanitation cycle ensures if there are any oils remaining from the manufacturing process that they have been properly burned off.
With only 1 button and 1 simple LED indicator, this device couldn’t be easier to use. Turn on or off (which they refer to as lock or unlock) by pressing the button 5 times rapidly within 2 seconds. Once the device is on, it remains on without any further assistance.
The LED indicator located across from the mouthpiece advises how much battery life is remaining when it’s turned on by flashing 3 times. Green means the battery level is between 60 – 100%, Orange means 20 – 60% and means Red 0 – 20%. However you should note that it will automatically turn off (lock) after 7 minutes of use for safety purposes.
There are 4 temperature pre-sets which are colour-coded and can be changed by pressing the button twice, they include:
- Green 180°C (356F)
- Blue 190°C (374F)
- Purple 200°C (392F)
- Red 210°C (410F)
When the device is powered on, it will use the last temperature pre-set used. However if you hold the power button, it enables the Boost mode which pushes the temperature to 225°C (437F).
The battery lasted 60 minutes before requiring a recharge and is charged using a micro-USB cable connected to a 5V~1A charger.

Depending on where you’re located you can pick up the Utillian 722 for $169.99 at retailers like VaporizerChief. It comes with a 12-month limited warranted on hardware defects requiring proof of purchase from the retailer. The unit will be replaced with a new, refurbished or functionally equivalent product at Thermodyne Systems discretion per the law.
In addition to the vaporizer, you get a scoop-ended packing tool, a cleaning brush, micro-USB charging cable, 3 mouth piece screens, 3 large red O-rings and 3 small black O-rings.
This is definitely one of the most enjoyable to use dry herb vaporizers we’ve come across. Simply put, it has great air flow which means drawing is comfortable and we get good clouds of vapor. If your preferred method of consumption is vaping then you’re going to love this device. That being said, we love our terpenes and unfortunately find this device like so many of these units leaves the cannabis tasting like corn syrup. However the quality is great and it does exactly what you’d expect.
