Acapulco Gold is a classic Landrace strain that originates from an area near Acapulco, Mexico.
This cultivar is know for producing an aroma similar to burnt toffee which is likely due to the dominant terpenes including caryophyllene and myrcene. Jonny Chronic describes their Acapulco Gold as producing big golden buds that glisten with trichome-covered leaves and copper-orange hairs. Plus, this strain is grown in small batches to control the overall quality, it’s then dried by hanging, slow-cured, and trimmed by hand before packaging.
So far the Jonny Chronic products we’ve reviewed have been pretty good. How does Acapulco Gold compare?

Smell
To say Acapulco Gold is a classic would be an understatement so it will be interesting see how Jonny Chronic handles. The product arrived like all the others from this brand – medium size white bag with resealable zipper opening. We tore open the package and detected a weak, almost undetectable (at first) smell of herbal hops and wheat. Not much else to report as the aroma was very minimal.
Appearance
Unfortunately like their other products Jonny Chronic did not include a humidity shield which we feel would definitely help retain some of the lost aroma. With that being said, the buds were medium sized and looked to be fluffy and airy. However picking them up revealed they were spongy yet dense with the copper coloured hairs interwoven beneath the even trichome layer that sparkled under the camera flash.
Flavour
Given the weak aroma, we were hopeful the flavour would deliver more… unfortunately that was not the case. For the most part we found this product tasted just like it smelled – like a mild herbal wheat – which possibly should be expected from a Landrace strain. However if you’re looking for a rich and flavourful sativa you’re probably not going to find it here.
Experience
Jonny Chronic’s Acapulco Gold was a bit of a disappointment especially comparing against their other products. Listed with 23.3% THC content and a price of $44.97 for 3.5 grams means our expectations were raised but unfortunately not met. We found this product delivered a mild mental high with a very slight uplifting feeling. The buzz seemed to disappear quickly too, here one minute and gone the next. We love classic Landrace strains but would pass on this one given the average buzz and high price tag.
