Coastal Kush (Cold Creek Kush) from Reef Organic is an indica-dominant strain that was created by crossing Chemdog 91 with the potent MK Ultra.
Reef Organic Coastal Kush is described as having a sweet and herby aroma with floral and spice undertones. Grown organically and in small batches, they claim it has a fresh taste and balanced high so it’s not a Kush that leaves you feeling burned out. Coastal Kush is our first Reef Organic product review so we really don’t know what to expect especially with the price point being middle of the road.
How does this strain compare against Edison’s Chemdog or UP’s Cold Creek Kush?
Smell
The product arrived from Reef Organic in an industry standard white plastic container with resealable lid. Having no idea what to expect, we cracked open the top and inhaled deeply. Although not overpowering, the aroma reminded us of a sweet citrus before swapping for a soft herbal undertone. The smell was okay but mild to moderate in terms of strength.
Appearance
Unfortunately there was no moisture package included in the container so the buds (all popcorn sized) arrived bone dry and flaky. Almost crispy. Plus the packaging was done in February which is close to 7 months from the time we received it. That feels like a long time for those nugs to sit inside a dry plastic container without any type of moisture/freshness protection. Aside from that, the buds contained nest-like red-orange hairs and multiple shades of green both light and dark, its easy to overlook simply because of the frosty trichome coating.
Flavour
Since the smell was so clear we weren’t really surprised with the immediate similarities detected in the flavour profile. This version of Coastal Kush has a taste and pretty much matches the aroma exactly. At the beginning there is a soft and almost sweet lemony herbal flavour but this was hard to enjoy because the smoke itself was harsh from the dryness of the product.
Experience
Listed as having 27.1% THC content, we found Coastal Kush from Reef Organic was a decent, middle of the pack indica that delivered a balanced moderate high as described by Reef. We experienced a mild mental buzz with moderate facial tingling focused around the eyes. Best described as a nice average high that’s not overwhelming despite the THC potency label. As a result, this will appeal to some but not others as it really comes down to what type of experience you want.
