San Rafael 71’s Lemon Rocket is a proprietary indica that was created by crossing undisclosed Fuel and Cake strains.
Users describe the aroma as being a pungent gas with a distinct undertone of citrusy lemons which is the result of it’s primary terpenes limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene (learn how terpenes affect cannabis). San Rafael reports that the buds are bright-green in colour, dense to the touch and contain a very thick layer of trichomes.
We’re curious how this compares to San Rafael’s Stonefruit Sunset, which is another highly regarded hybrid from this brand.

Smell
The product arrived from San Rafael ’71 in the same blue plastic container as previous strains. We opened the lid expecting to get smacked in the face by a pungent gas but were actually surprised by the lack of a significant smell. What we could detect eventually was a mild herbal lemon but unfortunately no trace of the strong fuel which was described.
Appearance
Before dumping out the contents we noted the package date was October 15, 2021 which is older then the other products we’ve bought from this brand. The good news was San Rafael included a humidity shield however the bad news was the buds were still very dry. They comprised of 1 large bud with several tiny budlets. They were fluffy but crispy on the outside and spongy on the inside which reminded us of San Rafael’s Pink Kush strain. The trichome layer was quite thick (like advertised) and the hairs had a burnt orange appearance.
Flavour
The flavour profile was a tad stronger than the smell but not by much. There was a noticeable lemon note that started hard and tapers off quickly. It reminded us of a watered down lemonade and ultimately we still prefer something like UP’s Lemon Z in terms of overall citrusy flavour profile.
Experience
Listed with 22.6% THC content and a price tag of $32.95 for 3.5 grams, we found Lemon Rocket from San Rafael ’71 delivered the balanced experience you’d expect from a hybrid. After inhaling we felt a strong body buzz that made us want to stay seated while also creating a mental cloud that reduced reflexes leaving you feeling a sense of cerebral relaxation. The product is okay, but our least favourite so far from San Rafael.
