Top Leaf LA Kush Cake was created by crossing Wedding Cake and Kush Mints which resulted in an indica-dominant hybrid strain with a vanilla aroma and earthy peppermint taste.
This strain is know for it’s potency, which is not at all surprising given it’s lineage. Both strains used to create this plant are easy smoking and wonderfully powerful. Top Leaf decided to grow this strain because they want you to have your cake and smoke it too. We really liked their Northern Lights strain, so we have pretty high expectations for this product.
How’s does this compare with Natural History’s version or the tasty Cali Kush Cake from DOJA?
Smell
The product arrived in a small dark glass container. They also included a moisture pack inside which is a great sign. But what was absolutely shocking was the lack of any significant aroma! We passed the jar around to several people and everyone felt the same way – weak smell and hard to identify. This was shocking because we reviewed Tantalus Labs LA Kush Cake and thought the aroma was magical. However there was some good news after grinding up the bud, at that point we began to detect a hint of sweet cake and citrus. But it was very minimal.
Appearance
Visually it’s a nice looking product. As you can see in the photos below, all of the buds are bright and cheery looking while also a good size. Spongy and dense with a light trichome frosting across the entire surface that gives it a magical sparkle.
Flavour
Thankfully, the near complete loss of smell did not impact the flavour. This was a pleasant taste of sweet hops with just a faint hint of lemon. Tasty and not overpowering. However we’d say that the flavour from Tantalus product is much stronger and delicious.
Experience
Top Leaf’s LA Kush Cake delivers a good buzz. The strong high is comprised of a mild feeling of tranquillity which is both calming and stress-relieving. Overall this is a good product, however not the best version of this strain we’ve reviewed. You likely would not be disappointed with this product unless you’re already familiar with the version from Tantalus Labs. Check our other LA Kush Cake reviews here.

Buyer beware. With Top Leaf I Was a faithful however the last 2 LA Kush Cake I purchased had two types of buds in it. About 10 g of nice solid resin filled buds the other 18g a fluffy interior buds that are not the same. I am on limited budget and will not take a chance with them again and advise others to do the same. Told me to take back to where purchased? They know you can’t. Not accountable at all.

That’s disappointing to hear. I just tried it the one time, but I’ve been hearing a similar story about several LP’s which is not great. Hopefully they step up and fix the issue.
