Dykstra Greenhouses’ California Dreaming pre-roll is actually the California Indica strain which is an indica-dominant hybrid made by crossing Afghani with California Orange.
Those familiar with this cultivar say the buds have a sour spicy flavour with a slight chocolate note. A lot of users mention the aroma reminds them of herbs and spices with an earthy chocolate overtone. Growers describe the flower as having thick grape-shaped, neon green nugs with bright orange hairs and a thick coating of frosty white tiny crystal trichomes.
Let’s see how this compares to Dykstra’s other pre-roll Blue Widow.

Smell
The product arrived in a thin black plastic bag with resealable zipper opening and a plastic tray to prevent the pre-rolled joints from moving around. As mentioned above, the product is called California Dreaming, but the actual strain is California Indica. The joints themselves produced a few different scents which reminded us of a herbal floral mixed with faint black pepper that had a piney undertone.
Appearance
The outer labelling was helpful as it included descriptive details about the terpenes, strain, THC concentration and packaging date. We dumped out the contents and came to the conclusion these pre-rolls were most likely hand rolled – which is perfectly fine with us. Each looked like they were rolled by a different hand but still used the same RAW unbleached filters and rolling paper as the Blue Widow pre-rolls from a few weeks ago. Pretty standard looking stuff here.
Flavour
Within seconds of lighting up the first joint the taste was quite clear. Initially we noted a brief but intense floral component that trailed off and was replaced with a black pepper which was harsh on the the throat and reminded us of Dykstra’s Wreck & Leisure strain. There was an undertone of pine too but that element was not consistent through the whole session. Overall if the flower had been fresher the flavour profile would likely have been more pronounced and a little easier on the throat.
Experience
This bag was part of lot number CD210917H with a package date of August 15, 2022. Listed with 22.3% THC content and a price tag of $31.95 for 3.5 grams, we felt this flower delivered a decent high for the listed price. After smoking it, it produced a moderately strong high that included a relaxed cerebral buzz with the familiar heavy feeling common with many indica-dominant strains. If you’re going to pick this strain just be aware it may leave your throat a little raw.
