MAC-1 is a hybrid strain that is created by crossing Miracle 15 with Alien Cookies.
Holy Mountain (a brand from Big Bag O Buds) says their flower is covered in trichomes and features a prominent citrus flavour upfront with a mid-range gassy diesel smell, finished off with a hint of spice. The buds are suppose to be very dense and composed of two-tone greens with the occasional speck of light purple. Let’s see how this compares to Fraser Valley’s MAC-1 or Carmel’s MAC-1.

Smell
Big Bag O Buds recently launched the Holy Mountain brand and they began by offering one of our favourite strains. As seasoned reviewers of MAC-1 strains from various brands, we anticipated the classic blend of black pepper and lemon citrus aromas. However, upon opening the resealable flaps of the bag, we were disappointed to find a surprisingly mild smell. After shaking the bag and waiting a few moments, we attempted to identify any scent by inhaling deeply. Eventually, we detected a faint black pepper aroma, but it was incredibly weak and the absence of any citrus scent was a bit surprising.
Appearance
The signature reflective resealable bag from Big Bag O Buds is notoriously challenging to photograph due to its reflective properties. The front of the package lists important information such as the brand name, strain, product name, weight, lineage, and THC and CBD levels. The back of the bag includes a three-step diagram for opening the seal, along with additional details such as the weight, contact information, packaged date, and lot number. Upon examining the buds, we noticed that they ranged in size from small to medium, and had been trimmed well. The frosty trichome layer was easily visible against a uniform green background, with occasional rusty brown pistil hairs. The appearance of this flower is likely it’s best feature even though it was also quite dry.
Flavour
After packing the flower into a hemp rolling paper, we lit it up and took a puff but unfortunately, the flavour profile was just as disappointing as the aroma. We were expecting the usual black pepper and lemon citrus combination, but instead, we were met with a weak lemon flavour on the inhale, followed by a faint hint of black pepper on the exhale. It was surprising to experience such a difference between the smell and taste of the strain, especially since we have had other MAC-1 strains before. While the flavour was enjoyable, it was disappointingly weak, which may be a positive for some but most will probably feel that way.
Experience
Our batch of Holy Mountain’s MAC-1 belonged to lot number 269173221208 and was packaged on December 8, 2022. It was available in a 28 gram package, priced at $143.95, with THC content of 20%. Compared to other similar products in the market we found this particular strain to be underwhelming. We expected a strong and heavy feeling in the body, but instead only felt a mild mental grogginess with a slight body tingle and sleepy eyes. Depending on your tolerance, this could be a suitable option for those seeking a MAC-1 strain but prefer a mild effect and don’t want to experience strong flavour or aroma profiles or the couch-lock effect.
