Pure Sunfarms Pine Tar Kush Review

Pine Tar Kush from Pure Sunfarms is the descendent of a landrace strain originating near Pakistan and is nearly unaltered.

Pure Sunfarms Pine Tar Kush is a Limited Release Flower so they say it won’t be around for long.

Naturally we were curious by the “limited release” part so we ordered some to test.

Pine Tar Kush descends from a landrace strain originating near Pakistan and is a nearly unaltered indica best known for having bright green buds with a strong skunky aroma. Pure Sunfarms says this batch was grown inline with the true nature of it’s potent aromatics and flavour.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to other Pure Sunfarms products like their their Blueberry Kush.

Smell

The product arrived like all previous from this brand – inside a dark green plastic bag with resealable zipper opening. We opened the pouch and were disappointment by the rather mild musky earth aroma with an herbal kush undertone that was detected. We did not notice any skunk or pine which was surprising.

Appearance

We dumped out the contents and noted as per usual Pure Sunfarms did not include a humidity shield in their pouch. It appears that trimming the plants is too time consuming as well because the small buds are horribly leafy and very shaggy. There are many brown hairs and a light trichome coating but the sheer amount of excess leaf is hard to look past. Substandard appearance to say the least.

Flavour

As one can see from the photos, the buds had a lot of extra sugar leaves which significantly increased how harsh the smoke was and reduced overall smoking enjoyment. Aside from the respiratory issues we found the flavour to be average at best and reminded us of a moderate earthy taste that fades into a faint herbal.

Experience

Listed with 18.1% THC content and a price tag of $22.95 for 3.5 grams, we found Pine Tar Kush from Pure Sunfarms to be an average at best product. This flower would be most enjoyed by those looking for a mild to moderate indica high without being couch-locked. It delivered a mildly relaxing body high combined with a mild mental cloud that was relaxing but not overpowering. Overall though we preferred Pure Sunfarms D. Bubba strain.

Since high school my friends and I have been recreational cannabis users so we decided to start Merry Jade after legalization in 2019. We review and photograph the different products then share them on this website. The rating system we use is called “SAFE” which stands for Smell, Appearance, Flavour and Experience. Each category gets a score out of 10.

  1. I really liked this one. Got it in April 2021 for $16.75 at a local shop. 20.8% Fresh, pungent. In fact up to that point I was really good about putting any cannabis I bought at a shop in the trunk of my car, but since this shop was 2 km from my place, I just put it in a coat pocket. It was stinking on the way home and I thought to myself it’d be a fine time to be pulled over..

Really hit hard in my vaporizer. I would have got it again but it disappeared too soon. I’d buy other pine tar kushes going forward definitely. Cheers!

    • Agreed – this one disappeared very quickly. I literally saw it the one time we grabbed it and that was all. Curious if they will bring back and also if any other LP’s will grow.

      • Hi David. PSF also released this as a ‘Limited Edition’ for a while too (dunno why the secrecy?), but it’s long-gone now too. Cheers.

        • Have you seen anyone else with this strain? I was looking a few months ago again but couldnt find anything.

          • I think so, but I don’t remember the LP. Seems to me it cost way more anyhow. Passed through pretty quick too.

          • If you see it again let me know. I like that piney flavour profile like Northern Lights. Felt like this version of PTK was a bit of a let down.
