Yesterday we tried UP’s Gelato 29 so today let’s continue that theme with Gelato Mint from Tribal, an indica-dominant flower created by crossing Cookies & Cream with the company IT’s strain named It.
As you might expect by the name, Gelato Mint’s aroma is comparable to a fresh mint dessert with undertones of pepper and earthy pine. In terms of appearance, Tribal describes the buds as dark green with purple sugar leaves, thick trichome layer and amber-coloured pistils.
So how does this product compare to the original Gelato or Gelatti strain?
Check our review, rating and photos below.
Smell
The product arrived in a black plastic container that reminded us of a tuna can. We opened the lid and peeled back the nitrogen seal which immediately released a very strong musky floral aroma with undertones of citrusy lemonade. However we did not detect any mint which we expected given the name.
Appearance
We dumped out the contents and noted Tribal did not include a humidity shield, but perhaps the nitrogen seal is sufficient. With the contents on full display it’s clear these buds had a serious trichome layer that was glistening in the light. The beautifully well trimmed buds were mostly small in size, bright green with strong orange hair accents, sticky, dense and even some dark green patches. It just would have been nice to see bigger buds.
Flavour
In terms of flavour profile, the best description we could think of was a strong musky floral with a mild herbal undertone on exhale. The bud was fairly fresh so the smoke itself was quite smooth. The floral flavour leads the way so be prepared, but overall the aroma is still bolder.
Experience
Listed with 23.4% THC content and a price tag of $34.97 for 3.5 grams, we found Tribal’s Gelato Mint delivered a strong high. It felt like a strong body buzz focused around the eyes (heavy feeling) combined with a mild mental fog which caused a short attention span with regards to focus. This product would be a good one for the end of the day but probably not an ideal way to start.
