Let me start by saying this is another really expensive product – $69.99 for 3.5 grams. But when we learned Sunset Mac from Qwest Reserve was a hybrid of Sunset Sherbet and Mac 1… I knew it was only a matter of time before we got some.
Mac 1 from Citizen Stash is our highest rated product and since that review we’ve developed a real fondness for the strain overall. Unfortunately because Sunset Mac is a relatively new cultivar we were not able to find much information except for the details provided by Qwest. They describe it as having dark plum coloured buds coated in layer of frosty trichome crystals with orange hair pistils. The flower is very dense and sticky with a distinct earthy and citrusy flavour combined with an uplifting/euphoric feeling after consumption.
So how does Sunset Mac compare to other hybrids such as Qwest’s Banana OG strain or Qwest’s Stuffed French Toast?

Smell
Last week we reviewed Point Break from Qwest Reserve and the package is very different from this product. Sunset Mac arrived in a small grey glass container that was quite heavy. We opened the lid and were greeted right away with an aroma similar to sweet earthy herbal with some herbal or hoppy undertones. The smell is pleasant but for the very high price point we expected more kick.
Appearance
Sunset Mac looks lovely. The buds are all bright green, dense yet spongy and almost seem to glisten in the light due to the very heavy trichome layer covering each nug from top to bottom. Qwest included a moisture shield inside the jar which did a great job of keeping the plant fresh.
Flavour
Much like the smell we found ourselves a bit disappointment with the flavour of this product. It wasn’t terrible but for such a high price point we’d expect Sunset Mac to tick all the boxes and deliver a great smell, appearance, taste and high. We found a distinct herbal taste was present near the start but this quickly faded out and was replaced with very mild lemony citrus flavour. However this was such a weak change that several people in our session did not even detect it.
Experience
Listed with 25.4% THC content, we found Sunset Mac from Qwest Reserve delivered a very strong high. But our issue is the current price point – much higher then even black market – making it hard to recommend this product. In a way it feels like Qwest just set a really high price to see if anyone would pay. On a good note, this strain does produce a very strong high that’s somewhat numbing and focused around the head and face while at the same time delivering a mild mental high. The buzz is quite nice but you can get a very similar experience for a whole lot less.
